FAQ

Do you have any questions?

A wide range of questions can arise regarding residential ventilation, which we would like to answer for you below. You have the opportunity at any time to present your concerns to a qualified ventilation planner during a free consultation.

Funding

Our decentralised systems with heat recovery are subsidised by the nationwide development bank KfW. You can find more information here: New build or Renovation

For commercial customers, BAFA promotes ventilation systems with 35-45% in conjunction with an energy-efficient heat pump. You can find more information here.

In addition, individual funding programmes apply to federal states, cities and municipalities, which you can find on the funding map on our website.

Advantages & differences of getAir® systems

The SmartFan series systems achieve unique values in terms of sound insulation and efficiency. The SmartFan L Plus achieves a standard sound level difference of 60 dB, while the external air outlets (ALD) even reach 70 dB. The easyFan requires only 2.8 watts at maximum level, yet the volume flow in paired operation is 43 m³/h.

With the TOUCH control, our SmartFan features individual demand-based ventilation and extraction. Three different ventilation zones can be controlled with one control unit. This means that up to 3 different ventilation requirements in the house can be served at the same time.

Via the SmartControl app, the devices can be easily controlled by voice command via Alexa or Google Assistant, and the control regulates the intensity of the air exchange fully automatically thanks to the air quality sensor.

Features an optional pollen and fine dust filter (PM2.5), which can filter even the smallest pollutants from the outdoor and indoor air.

Our easyFan is a high-quality decentralised ventilation system with heat recovery that serves more than the basic ventilation requirements. In addition to the standard settings, such as “heat recovery” and “ventilation”, the PUSH control features an integrated humidity sensor as well as a filter change indicator.

Our SmartFan is an intelligent ventilation system. In conjunction with the TOUCH or SmartControl unit and the sensor, the system features a variety of control options as well as automatic VOC, temperature and humidity regulation. Due to its various group settings, it is easy to set up different ventilation zones in your own flat/house and adapt them individually. The SmartFan stands for very demand-oriented, comfortable ventilation.

Cleaning & Maintenance

We generally recommend replacing our dust, pollen and fine dust filters every ½ to 1 year, depending on the degree of soiling. If you have a filter change indicator, you will receive an automatic signal to follow. To ensure a particularly long service life for the filter, it should be briefly vacuumed every 3 months. You can easily access the dust filter by simply pulling out the inner cover. It can be replaced without tools.

Due to the tool-free assembly, the inner cover can simply be pulled out. To carry out a complete cleaning, the BUS connector is then removed from the fan and the fan unit is pulled out of the tube. The heat exchanger can then also be carefully pulled out.

The tube can now be easily wiped out from the inside with a damp cloth.

A simple replacement of the pre-filter can be carried out on the heat exchanger and the ceramic stone can be vacuumed.

The fan unit is cleaned with a damp cloth.

The dust filter in the inner cover can also be cleaned or replaced.

Control & Operation

This varies depending on the control unit.

  • SmartFan controls: SmartControl Hub, TOUCH, LED
    • Up to 12 fans with 2 power supply units
    • Up to 6 fans with 1 power supply unit
  • easyFan controls: SmartControl Hub, PUSH, EASY (rotary control)
    • Up to 6 fans with 1 power supply unit
  • Depending on the property, your contact person can range from the responsible architect or planner to the electrician or the landlord.
  • If you do not have a direct contact person, you will find helpful instructions in our installation and operating manual in our download area. Here, the most important settings are explained simply for you. If you still have questions, you are welcome to contact us or your installer by email or telephone.
  • Our simple control for the SmartFan, the LED control, features 2 modes: heat recovery and ventilation mode, as well as a filter change indicator.
  • The SmartControl, which is demand-oriented at all times, represents the highest possible level of comfort with over 9 modes. If you select automatic mode, for example, the system automatically takes control of the ventilation and independently decides on the mode and intensity. The decisive factors for this are the previously set target temperature and relative humidity content. Via the VOC sensor, the control unit regulates up or down according to pollutants in the interior. Controlling the individual fan groups also significantly improves ventilation comfort.
  • The TOUCH control includes the modes of the SmartControl but does not feature air quality measurement, app or voice control.
  • The PUSH control of our easyFan features 4 modes as well as an integrated humidity sensor for the interior and a filter change indicator.
  • The EASY control is a rotary control that features 2 modes: heat recovery and ventilation, as well as a filter change indicator.
  • Our easyFan can be controlled automatically via a humidity sensor integrated into the PUSH control. Here, the humidity in the vicinity of the control unit is measured indoors.
  • Our SmartFan can be controlled automatically with the help of our plug-in sensor. The plug-in sensor is inserted below the spacer of the fan unit and measures the humidity and temperature of the incoming and outgoing air there. These values are then compared with each other and the system automatically adjusts its ventilation behaviour so that ventilation is as close as possible to the previously set target values. With the VOC sensor, the ventilation is regulated fully automatically according to the pollutant concentration in the room.

Yes, this has been possible since 2021.

Up to 3 groups can be defined using the 4 DIP switches on the top of the SmartFan fan unit. The first three switches are relevant for this; they indicate which group the fan is in.

The fourth DIP switch regulates which direction (inwards/outwards) the fan turns first when it is switched on.

Integration into a home automation system is not yet possible. Here, too, we are striving to be able to offer you a solution as quickly as possible. To ensure you do not miss any information in this regard, you are welcome to register for our newsletter.

Yes, via the SmartControl unit with a free app from the Apple or Google Play Store. Additional voice control via Alexa and Google Assistant is also included.

In principle, we do not recommend the installation of individual units. During operation, the constant change between supply and exhaust air can lead to slight overpressure or underpressure.

In general, however, it is possible to install and also control our units individually.

No, the SmartFan X / X9 & XR work completely independently and are not integrated into the control unit for the decentralised devices. Direct connection to the light switch is possible.

Use in New Builds & Existing Buildings

If you are currently planning your new build and no walls are standing yet, we have developed our installation mounting stone (Art. No. 100220) for this case. This is simply bricked into the wall and already has an integrated gradient of 3° towards the outside. This saves you the subsequent core drilling and the resulting dirt.

A decentralised residential ventilation system does not require complete piping of your home.

Only a core drilling of Ø 162 mm for one unit through the outer wall, as well as the wiring of the individual units and the control unit, must be carried out.

Installation Requirements/Prerequisites

  • Yes, it is possible to install our units retrospectively as part of a renovation/refurbishment.
  • Only a core drilling of Ø 162 mm for one unit as well as the wiring of the individual units and the control unit must be carried out.

Our standard tube dimension is 500 mm. In addition, we also offer tubes in lengths of 700 mm and 1,000 mm in our range.

  • The minimum wall thickness required for our units is 255 mm, although in this case installation is only possible with our metal external hood and the Slim inner cover.
  • The optimum wall thickness for the SmartFan is 360 mm, and for the easyFan it is 315 mm.

It should be noted here that the units should not necessarily be installed on the windiest side of the house, if this is possible.

Our metal external hoods offer sufficient protection against temporarily occurring strong wind loads.

Please feel free to contact us directly. We will take care of a professional design for you.

In the case of fireplaces in the residential building, pressure monitors with temperature measurement should be installed in addition to the getAir ventilation units, and the district chimney sweep should be contacted for approval. Pressure monitors deactivate the units if excessive underpressure is detected in the residential unit.

When installing our units, care must be taken to ensure that the core drilling has a gradient of 1–3° towards the outside. This allows any condensate that may occur to be drained to the outside. Furthermore, our external covers have an integrated condensate drain so that the condensate does not run directly down the façade but is drained at a distance from the wall.

Alternative solutions (variants & accessories)

  • We have a stainless steel external hood as well as two metal external hoods in white and anthracite as alternatives in our range.
  • These are price-neutral as a replacement for our plastic cover for the SmartFan. For our easyFan, they are available at a surcharge of €29.

In addition to our SmartFan sound insulation covers, we also offer our design covers with glass decor and angular covers from the easyFan series.

Our exhaust air systems do not have heat recovery. They extract air from the room in order to quickly reduce humidity peaks in bathrooms and kitchens, thus avoiding moisture damage.

Planning & Design

  • This is a question that cannot be answered in general terms. Generally, at least one fan should be installed in living rooms. However, this depends on the general room layout and the size of the rooms.
  • Exhaust air rooms such as bathrooms, utility rooms and closed kitchens are not included in the calculation for decentralised residential ventilation.

We are happy to carry out a free design for you. Please ensure that all rooms are provided with m² specifications, otherwise a design is not possible.

Note: Our design recommendations do not correspond to a ventilation concept from an energy consultant. Ventilation concepts are not created by us as a manufacturer.

Our calculation basis for our decentralised residential ventilation units is DIN 1946-6.

DIN 18017-3 serves as the basis for a design recommendation for our external air outlets.

A general statement as to how many fans you need for xy m² is unfortunately not possible.

You are welcome to send us your building plans with the m²/room drawn in. Based on these documents, we can create a free design recommendation for you.

Sound Insulation

  • Our sound insulation element 3K (Art. No. 101223) can be used for further noise reduction. This reduces both the fan’s own noise and noise that enters the living space from outside.
  • In principle, all systems are flow-optimised and acoustically optimised and already exhibit very good acoustic values as standard.

For a new build with high sound insulation requirements, we offer our reveal solution 60 Plus. It falls into sound insulation class 6.

It is integrated into the window reveal and is equipped with an additional sound insulation mat, which absorbs the most noise. Due to the double redirection of the sound through the reveal element, the external noise is reduced even further.

Instructions, Prices & Certificates

  • You can find our installation and operating instructions for our device series in our download area on our website.
  • Corresponding instructions are included with every product order.

You can download our price list in the download area. Please note that this is a net price list and does not include any discounts.

All our fans are in the highest energy efficiency class A to A+.

The “European Test Centre for Residential Ventilation Units” (TZWL) and “ift Rosenheim GmbH” have tested our SmartFan and easyFan fans. You can view our certificates on the official TZWL website at www.tzwl.de/ipw/getAir.

You are also welcome to request the certificates from us.

Electrical Installation

The ventilation units receive their power supply from the respective control unit. A power supply unit is connected upstream of the control unit, which reduces the power supply to 12V for the easyFan and to 42V for the SmartFan. The power supply unit is connected to the domestic power supply at 230V.

  • For the SmartFan, we recommend a 4-pole data line of type LiYY for wiring the fan units to each other and to the control unit. For the easyFan, a 3-pole line is sufficient.
  • Yes, all fans must be supplied with power:
  • Our easyFan is wired in a star configuration with the control unit.
  • The SmartFan can be connected to the control unit either in series, ring or star configuration.
  • You can order the corresponding data line cable directly from us.

The electricity costs amount to approx. €5 per year.

Please note that this value serves only as a rough guide, as the prices of energy suppliers can fluctuate significantly.

Our units can be installed by your plumbing and heating installer, electrician or even by yourself as an electrically minded person with the help of our installation and operating manual. However, we recommend a professional for smooth operation.

Our partners in your area can also recommend an installer for the installation of our fans, should they not be an installation company themselves.

Independent Troubleshooting

Please check your settings. Have you accidentally set the ventilation mode?

If you have only defined one group in your control unit, you should ensure that only the first DIP switch for group allocation has been pushed up. Otherwise, your SmartFan fan is not in the controlled group and will not react to the control unit.
